1. Tag Influencers in Your Images
Did you know you can tag profiles in the images you tweet? You can tag up to 10 Twitter profiles—and while this may not seem like a big deal, for some marketers it provides much-appreciated extra room. Instead of tagging an influencer or person you are quoting within the tweet itself, tag them in your tweet’s image and use that real estate for effective hashtags.
2. Repurpose Successful Posts
Just because a tweet didn’t perform well the first go-around doesn’t mean that it failed or that it shouldn’t be reposted. Instead, try repurposing your original tweet! You can add an image, incorporate different hashtags, tag influencers, try a different headline… the options are endless.
We’ve started doing this ourselves with our own tweets. For example, this first tweet includes a number in the headline and effective hashtag usage, however it saw no engagement from followers:

Before giving up on trying to share and promote a piece of content or spending time putting together a whole new tweet, try repurposing your current tweet using different rich media elements or tags.

As more and more businesses are turning to the platform to promote their products and services via tweets featuring links to their branded content, Twitter users are becoming less engaged. Switch up your current strategy by incorporating a smattering of link-less tweets with the goal of building trust and relationships with your followers. Add more or less to your content calendar based on how they perform with your specific audience.
4. Brainstorm Long-Form Content Ideas
As we mentioned earlier, Twitter has shown that they aren’t stuck to the idea of 140-character tweets, and as a result you should be thinking about how you can use longer-form tweets to your advantage . You could use long-form tweets to summarize longer, branded content you’re promoting on other platforms and entice traffic, or as a way to share in-the-moment insights and lessons learned that can’t be character-capped. We don’t know quite when the ability to create longer tweets will roll out, but having a strategy already in place to maximize their use is a great head start.
5. Play Your (Twitter) Cards Right
It’s shocking that so many marketers have yet to take advantage of this next strategy. Twitter Cards automatically add rich media to any shares of your content links. Once added to your site, anyone who shares a link to your content will have a “Card” added to their tweet that is visible to their followers, as seen below:
