Most small businesses realize that engaging with fans via social media is crucial. In order to do this, you have to create the best
content
to represent our brand. Two tips to remember are:
- Maintain your content – look out for inaccurate or irrelevant content; broken links; inconsistency with branding style and inaccurate meta-descriptions.
- Make your links clear in the standard format (blue and underlined) and ensure that they’re accurate and relevant. Broken or inaccurate links make it look as if your brand can’t be bothered.
Once you get your content in shape, how do you promote it on social media ? Consider the following:
- Update your Facebook page to make followers feel like friends. This encourages comments and interaction. It could be something simple, such as photos or stories of a resident pet.
- However, a little bit of quirky goes a long way . Don’t inundate followers with everything you have on your brand, such as this month’s prize-winning BBQ recipe. Instead, use the data you collect each month to fine tune your content.
- One size does not fit all – create titles and descriptions that draw users in, but remember that different titles are needed for different networks. Visit the sites you promote on to read the titles daily and note which titles do better than others.
-
Play nice
– social media is a small world and word gets around. Keep your
brand
reputation intact by not downvoting or maliciously reporting your competitors, and certainly don’t steal their content. - Don’t focus your efforts on one social network, no matter how popular. Research other networks, as well as forums and other kinds of user communities.
Let social media do the work of engaging with fans and potential customers by making your brand image familiar and comfortable. Put more time and effort into building your social network and interacting with the community, and you’ll see the results.
