The Google algorithm is a multifaceted mathematical equation which searches rapidly through the nearly 150 million websites online to get answers to the queries searched for on Google. The algorithm uses 200 different criteria to rank websites. These criteria include keywords, links, page views and more which correspond with a search. One of the best ways to promote your business online is to improve your website’s search ranking so when people search for the services or products you provide, your company’s name pops up in the top few suggestions on Google.

It can be easy to think the only way to get the best search ranking on Google is by tailoring your internet marketing strategy based on the Google algorithm. However, navigating the complicated world of search algorithms can be overwhelming. In fact, in 2010, there were over 500 updates released and 2011 is on the same track. With so many changes occurring all the time, the best tactic for optimizing your site isn’t making changes based on Google but rather using a tried and true approach i.e. focusing on creating content for your website’s users. All the Google algorithm updates are aimed at providing the most honest, factual and relevant search results for users. This means the best thing for you to do is concentrate on creating fresh, original and relevant content.

In 2011, Google released two newsworthy algorithm updates known as Caffeine and Panda. Google Caffeine promises to produce faster, more accurate, and more comprehensive search results. Alternatively, the Google Panda update is meant to weed out low-quality websites and content to promote the best information for search users. Both of these updates will point people searching online in the direction of fresh and original content. If your company focuses on an internet marketing plan which revolves around high quality copy and content that is helpful to your customers and clients then the Google algorithm will seek out your website no matter how many times they change the algorithm.
